The Best Things

"The best things are nearest: the breath within you, the light in your eyes, the flowers at your feet, the duties at your hand, and the path of God just before you." -- Robert Louis Stevenson
How often we take these "near" things for granted. Enjoy the day!

Contentment

"I do not think the road to contentment lies in despising what we have not got. Let us acknowledge all good, all delight that the world holds, and be content." -- George MacDonald
Instead of focusing on what you are lacking, think about how grateful you are for what you have.

Trees

If you feel slow and dull in the cold of January, take a moment to notice the trees in their stark beauty. They will remind you that winter will not last but there is value and worthiness in this resting season.

Comfort

Have you ever noticed that if you are feeling that things are a bit "off" it only takes one small thing to change your perspective? By being aware of the things that give you comfort you can easily help yourself get back into balance. It may be a certain kind of music, a favorite food or drink, some comfortable clothes. Do what you need to make yourself feel comfortable and relaxed and before you know it you will be back in balance!

New Year's Eve...

"Now let us welcome the New Year, full of things that have never been." ---Rainer Maria Rilke

As I look back over the past year and realize all that has occured, I can only imagine what is to come in this new year that is about to begin. This quote also reminds me of the quote from Anne of Green Gables: "Tomorrow is a fresh new day with no mistakes in it." Each of us has the opportunity to start over and do better than the day before. Happy New Year!

The Gift

We have each been given many gifts but at times we overlook them because they require too much effort to develop. What is our untapped potential, our talents, our dreams? These are the jewels of our lives. In fact, our entire life is a gift from God. Are we living it? Or are we frozen into old habits?

Winter Solstice

Today is the shortest day of the year...winter solstice. I am thankful for this day because it means we are moving toward longer days from this point forward. I was reminded today that winter doesn't last forever in the seasons or in our lives. Enjoy the short days of winter that encourage you to slow down and recharge your batteries.
